A novel-writing app, made by two devs (and an occasional third).
We’re building Inkspire on nights and weekends because none of the existing apps did what we wanted. It’s a focused, full-featured place to draft a novel—workspaces, structure tools, exports, optional collaboration, optional AI. Free forever for local writing. Pay only if you want cloud sync or AI.
Windows macOS Linux Android iOS
One of us was drafting a novel and couldn’t find an app that did all the unsexy things at once—structure, research, real exports, actual cross-platform sync. Word felt like a swamp. The other tools were either rigid, single-OS, or wanted a subscription before we’d even started chapter one.
So we started building Inkspire on the side, for ourselves. Then a friend asked for a copy. Then another. Now it’s here. It’s still us in our spare time—day jobs pay the rent; Inkspire pays for the servers (barely).
Local writing, all features, all platforms—free forever. No trial, no nag, no feature lock.
Cloud sync between devices and AI tools cost real money to run, so they’re a paid add-on. That’s how the project survives.
Some things are still rough. iOS is in progress. We ship when we ship—but we ship.

Three humans, no investors, no growth team. If you email us, one of us reads it.
The features we’ve already built because we needed them. The list keeps growing—slowly, but steadily.
A clean, focused writing experience with rich text formatting, pagination, and a minimal interface that stays out of your way.
Invite co-authors, editors, or beta readers with granular read / edit permissions. Live cursors, conflict-free merging, and no accidental overwrites.
Chat with collaborators right inside the app. Conversations live alongside your manuscript — no more email threads or switching to a separate chat tool.
Three flavours, all optional: In-Editor AI for subtle inline help, an AI Chatbot that knows your manuscript, and an AI Image Editor for cover art — none of them ever take over your voice.
Apply proven story frameworks — Save the Cat, Three-Act, Hero’s Journey and more — and see real-time feedback on how your manuscript aligns.
Organize your manuscript, research, and notes with a flexible file-and-folder tree. Drag, nest, and restructure at will.
Search across your entire project by text or custom tags. Powerful regex and scoped replacements make editing a breeze.
Every change is tracked. Browse, compare, and restore any previous version of your documents with one click.
Produce professionally formatted EPUB, PDF, DOCX, HTML, and Markdown files with full template support. No third-party tools.
Invite co-authors, editors, or beta readers into your project. Changes merge in real time with conflict-free editing, and an integrated messenger keeps your conversations alongside the manuscript — not lost in email.
We’re writers ourselves, and we hate apps that auto-complete our sentences. Inkspire’s AI is fully optional, off by default, and never edits behind your back. It’s also part of the paid tier—running the models costs us money, so it has to.
Pick a framework, drag your scenes onto its beats, and see where the gaps are. Optional, never imposed.
Templated EPUB, PDF, DOCX, HTML, and Markdown, generated locally on your machine. We use pandoc under the hood—credit where it’s due.
One codebase, five platforms. Local-first, so it works fine offline. iOS is in progress—App Store paperwork takes time when you’re two people.
